if you use a host site such as photobucket, flickr, some other photo hosting site, or have a web page..... you can link the picture from the host site... for example I have a couple of google pages sites.... and I upload pictures to the web pages file manager. From there I use the URL for direct link and paste the address on this site... Here's what happens when you put the picture link directly to the page kylekirkman.googlepages.com/pineloop.jpg nothing.... but I can still take that link and paste it into my web browser and get the image... If I want the image to show on this forum I look at the above toolbar and on the bottom row, 4th from the right is the picture link click it and it does this [/img] [ i m g ] [ i m g] put the http://blah blah right in the middle of the ][ and the picture will show up.... like this kylekirkman.googlepages.com/pineloop.jpg/img]hope that helps. if not come over Friday 8.7.9 9pm 2062 John st and meet ben blitch- the worlds greatest pump track builder and I'll show you in person. Peace - Kyle

Hello - If you do not wish to receive emails regarding Southern Indiana Mountain Biking updates please ask to be taken off the list. If you know anyone who might be interested in getting updates and getting involved please pass this email along. The News Southern Indiana Mountain Bike Forum: If anyone wasn't aware; There is a new forum on the block that is focusing efforts on Southern Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois. Please feel free to join! It's free, the people are cool. We hope that by developing better information regarding trails in our area, and developing a local and regional discussion- better opportunities will develop. Thanks to Tim for getting this started!! Sign up at simtb.proboards.com Friday August 7th, 2009: the Ben Blitch Meeting: "Bike Park"- Evansville City/County and HarmonieFriday: August 7th. 2009 9pm till whenever 2062 John St. Evansville, IN Please call 204-0551 and let me know if you plan on attending, or shoot an email over to evvemabike@gmail.com Ben Blitch of B4 Construction, IMBA Freeride Guide contributor, Pisgah Area SORBA Trails Coordinator, and Trail/Pump Track/Dirt Jump/Bike Park builder extraordinaire will be in Evansville Thursday and Friday August 6th and 7th. Ben will be looking at a number of sites around town for the development of a Bike Park, and will be checking out what is available at Harmonie. Ben has been building trails and pump tracks all across the country and has a wealth of knowledge and experience- and if you didn't know, trained Alex Stewart on the use of a Ditch Witch. Yep- Ben is Alex's Obi Won. Ben is coming to talk bikes, see what Spectrum LLC has accomplished at Harmonie, then will be off to Brown County, then South Dakota, then California. He is offering us his knowledge base and advise on design and construction- If you would like to meet up with Ben and other MTB'ers looking to develop our neck of the woods please come on out! Food will be available. Please BYOB but if you are going to leave it behind make sure it's very hoppy pale ale!! Harmonie Trail Work and Chainsaw ClassTo use a chainsaw in any Indiana State Park you must first complete a Chainsaw Safety Class, put on by the DNR. I've contacted Harmonie in regards to this as there are very few people who are certified. Currently there are reports of a number of large trees down on the Harmonie trails with no one to clear the trail tread. Please look forward to an announcement regarding the Chainsaw class in the near future! Harmonie Advanced scoutingAdvanced trail scouting is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of October 17th 2009. We will be looking westward from the terminator of the Walnut Trail. Alex has done some preliminary GPS tracks and things look good although the parks South property boundary cuts off some good potential. If you are interested in Alex's GPS track and would like to see the topo for yourself go here: alexmtb.smugmug.com/photos/603196566_ge8SF-XL.jpgNational Mountain Bike Patrol/ Hoosier Trail PatrolAlthough the Hoosier Trail is 'Official' as a NMBP group, there are no NMBP classes scheduled, because there are no instructors to put on patrol training. Spencer Powilson, Field Director IMBA is developing a web based instructor training program to get patrollers certified as instructors. There is an unknown ETA for this program to be completed and up and running..... in the meantime for those of you who are not aware of the program and the many benefits that accompany NMBP/IMBA membership please see the following link- evvemabike.googlepages.com/hmbahoosiertrailpatrol That's the news folks! Again if anyone you know would like to get on this email list just pass the word along, and please advertise simtb.proboards.com and www.hmba.org Thanks and Safe Riding! Kyle Kirkman

From Alex on the HMBA HArmonie Thread........... I've only scouted the area north/east of the Oka Run drainage: alexmtb.smugmug.com/photos/603196566_ge8SF-XL.jpg [/img] Here's a sketch of one potential route from the walnut shelter area to the bridge crossing Oka. You should be able to use 80' to 110' of elevation change at least 3 times. The distance of this sketch is just over 3.5 miles. Of course, once you start running grade lines and scouting the best drainage crossings your finished route will differ from this sketch. I don't think Oka can reasonably be crossed anywhere other than the old roadbed bridge. You might find a crossing far upstream but most of what I saw was flat bottom swamp land guarding the deep gash of Oka. That would require serious boardwalking leading to a large bridge structure (25+'). That leaves a nice chunk of land to the southwest. To get there you will have to cross the Pahoka drainage. It looks like the closer you get to the property boundary with the camp the better your chances for this crossing may be. Once across Pahoka, it looks like you'll have nice contour terrain to make a loop. It's unfortunate that the southern property boundary cuts off the good contour land that would allow for a large loop back to Walnut shelter area. Be sure to guard yourself from the Chiggers! When I was scouting in late Sept. last year I came home covered with bites. That's a little slice of hell I wouldn't wish on anyone. Even you, Kyle

FORT DUFFIELD- West Point/ Louisville South Map of Ft. Duffield Trails: www.indycyclespecialist.com/images/Fort%20Duff.pdfPlease note the NO BIKES text means no bikes in the Fort or on the Fort walls…..FYIPictures of Fort Duffield trails www.flickr.com/photos/36909654@N00/sets/72157602139534302/ Radcliff /Ft. Knox Tourism site: www.radclifftourism.org/fortduffield.shtml# TRAILHEAD Locations, and parking unknown at time of post……….However approximate Google Map Coordinates are 37.992037,-85.94583TRAIL REVIEWS from various Internet sources…www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-346916.html....some killer single track with jumps thrown in, crazy nonstop climbs, downhill course with plenty of jumps and a slolam course......The trails are marked very well. Red and Blue are the main XC trails. They basically make a circle around the parking lot and you can't get lost. each trail is about 4-5 miles in length but cross each other several time so you can make several rides changing things up. You'll see yellow markings for the Slolam course and you simply can't miss the downhill course. The down hill course ends at the parking lot, you find it with ease. www.outdoorzy.com/tripreports/tripreport.cfm/reportid-60/Fort Duffield is on basically a huge hill. This park has about a 4-5 mile cross country trail and a cool downhill/freeride course. The downhill/freeride has been rebuilt and includes new jumps and banked turns. You definitely need a freeride or downhill bike to take advantage of this course. ……Part of the cross country course was redone as well. The cross country trial consists of quite a bit of climbing. The trail runs along some extreme drop offs and cliffs. This is not the place for an inexperienced rider. If you have never been, it can be confusing connecting all the different trails. There are also some hiking trails for those that don't like to ride… ….A cross country and downhill race are held here every year in the spring. If you are in the area I recommend you to check it out. It is a lot of fun….. …..A varied and fun trail. I checked out the Red trail, the Downhill section, and the Blue trail. The climbs are great for the area, and the trails are pretty well groomed. The Downhill is lots of fun with some good sized gaps and drops. The whole place rates a little more technical than a lot of others I have ridden in the area that provide a family friendly "beginner-intermediate-advanced" set up. Nice job by those who maintain this trail. I rode on a Monday and there was very little traffic on a perfect day, but beware of hikers visiting the Fort. Very well marked and the board had lots of maps…… ……Super fun downhill runs with some doubles and big jumps. About 8 miles of trails. Closest Freeride park to Indy!!! Take I-65 south through Louisville, and exit at #125 onto the Gene Snyder Freeway (841) West. To the Exit 1 the Fort Knox Exit. Turn left at the stoplight. Large sign and turn left in to park. After coming into the park, you will go right at the split and there is a nice size parking lot with access to the trail……
