More good news! Amanda Rogers (City of Owensboro Parks Director) called letting us know that work has officially been awarded to Alex Stewart of Spectrum Trail Design. www.spectrumtraildesign.com/Alex's initial goal will be to review, improve and approve the preliminary design, train city employees, detention crews and local volunteers on proper trail building techniques. Training will include a brief classroom session followed by actual hands on field work. (Trail Building!) The plan is to have him come back throughout the project to consult and build as much as our budget will allow. I can not express how exited I am. It's taken a long, long time to get to this point (literally years) Unfortunately, we've lost some really good volunteers along the way. Hopefully we will get them back and gain even more. Work should begin within a couple of weeks concluding late spring/early summer. (weather depending) We'll let you know the actual work days as soon as we can. Thanks for all the help and support along the way. Looking forward to building some sweet single-track! Richard Dixon

Update: Alex has approved enough corridor to keep us busy for awhile and the city's saw crew is hard at work clearing the way. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so Alex can lead us in an actual trail building day during his next visit. TBD. And incase you missed the news last night, Channel 14 was on site yesterday. Jasmin Embers interviewed Alex and Eddie Atherton with the Parks Dept. Link below.... Enjoy. www.14wfie.com/story/13924165/funding-adds-bike-trails-to-owensboro-park Richard

Its about time something good is happening in that area. I'm about as close to there as i am to scales lake.
Owensboro is a great community, I'm happy things are finally moving forward.

Tim, thanks for the offer. I believe we'll have enough. Not expecting a huge turnout. The timing is bad due to Spring Break but didnt want to wait since we finally received the green light. Thanks agian, Richard

Great... We had 10 awsome volunteers. Approx. 1.25 miles of sweet single-track is complete! Keep in mind its hidden. So be sure to ask around if you decide to ride. Otherwise you may spend the day riding around on the double track wondering what the heck? (btw... I believe Alex is working on a map) Take care, Richard More info here: www.kymba.org/forum/index.php?topic=236.0

Will do Tim. May not enough on the ground to justify your drive unless your just really curious. Be sure to let me know if you do. Alex was back in again this week. He cranked out some really cool stuff. Plus we had Kymba volunteers helping with finish work Wednesday Thursday and Friday evening. Hopefully we'll get this section completely open during his next visit.
