I will be coming down to visit on Sunday, 9/5/10. I will leave early in the morning and hope to get in a quick ride around 11:30, then will walk the new trails built since the last time I was down and review the flagging for the next segment of trails. Lets plan on meeting for the trail work at 1:00PM (The last weather forecast I saw said it will be nice and cool). I will also bring the large HMBA saw and will take a look at the big tree.
I am excited to see the new stuff.

Paul, just need to check... Are those Indy times or E'ville times? We're an hour behind.

Let's operate on Harmonie Time. I will have to consult my sundial to make the conversions, but I think that gives me an extra hour to arrive in time to ride first. Zack, I got your email and if you arrive around 5:30, I will hike the trail and new flags with you. I am in no hurry to get home, as my wife has a girl's night planned and I would just be in the way.
Anyone interested in the walk through at 1:00PM or later with Zack is welcome. Any one who just wants to swing tools will also be put to work.

"Should I haul that small cultivator - Stihl Yard Boss - to the end of the trail to help cut that deep bench cut we need to do there? It might save some swings w/ the rhinos"....... Yes tim If you think it will save some time I am more than willing to try it out!

Okay, so Zack and I were at trail's end getting ready to walk out when two riders came up and ducked under the big tree and kept riding. They stopped and talked, but the big thing is they ducked the tree with ease, both ways. Now the dilemma - do we cut down the tree or leave it as an obstacle? Any feedback out there would be appreciated. Zack brought up a good point that the tree would slow down a really fast section, so it will probably go once we get some expertise to help us cut it.

I couldnt duck under neath it on my after trailwork ride. That corner is going to be zoom-zoom. Full on stand up zoom down into that bowl type. We could dig it out, but i would be afraid of drainage. I'll look at it again and see if it may be possible. I do however think we should leave the taller one untill it gets too rotten. It looks too kool. Like some kind of earthen gateway.
As far as the of the new trail from walnut shelter to the downed trees: Ride it Now! It is done and awesome. Thats all!

I am bring the big HMBA saw and my smaller saw. I will take a look at the logs and trees in question. If I make the stay or go call, then if some one complains one way or the other, you can blame me. Looks like I am plan to leave Indy by 8:00AM.

Rode the trail again today and ducked the tree - it would be a real pain to do it just when you're getting ready to cook in the new section. One of the riders w/ me snagged their camelback on the log - not good. Think Zack's right - it should go. More of a hazard than an obstacle. We'll see what Paul says.....

The first one needs to go, the second one I think should stay. Like Zach said, that corner is going to be fast and I dont want to have to worry about ducking under a tree in the middle of the turn.

Paul and I took down the first tree. Also flagged enough trail to keep us busy for a while. Paul said Alex would come down later this year to help finalize the rest of the trail, probably after the leaves fall. Paul thought the trail was "awesome" and told us to keep up the good work.

It was pretty awesome to come back and see such great new trail. The local guys have been doing a great job of adding to the State Trail Grant trails. It was also great to see so many families from the camp grounds riding on the trails. It seems that the mtb trail is the main attraction at the park. Here is a family that just finished riding Zach is doing some great berm work, and even allowing for drainage. The guys aren't afraid of moving dirt, which is good, because there is lots of benching in the next section of trail. Harmonie has some big trees. Rumors are some sections were never logged. This will feel like riding through a tunnel. The whole photo album is here. indytrekracer.smugmug.com/Sports/Harmonie-Sept-2010/13646827_8zoip#996086306_kgkTCI made sure there are plenty of flags to keep the trail builders busy. Alex is heading down this fall to design the next segment which could have a 2 mile descent. Paul

Im not sure I will be able to make either of those days. There is a slight chance I will be able to make it tomorrow but I'm still not sure. I will also be out of town again this weekend. I can't wait to get started on that next section. That is going to be the best section so far on the new trail.
