Dan- GREAT trail work there!! I cant wait to ride this stuff!
I finished up the rest of the hill tonight all the way down to the log where we stopped clearing. Looks good but dirt is still real soft. Needs some rain and packing. I had to use some of the dirt for the ramp up to the log for the main trail corder, plus there needed to be a bypass around the drop. For the log ride project we are probaly going to have to wheel barrow a lot of dirt to it to make the ramp up to it. Or maybe a short board walk leading up to the log? I don't know right now. Reraurdless, I have a wheelbarrow that i am going to leave out there to move some dirt along with a hand held water sprayer that we can use to help pack down the trail.
As Far as work days go. .. pretty soon it will be too dark after work so weekends are going to be a must. Definatly 2 days a month. 1st and 3rd weekends would be great. I was thinking making Saturdays a work day for awhile may be a good way to draw in new volunteers. That morning always seems busy on the trails and when the riders get to the end of the trail and see us working you know a lot will ask about how they can get involved. Plus Id like to ride and hang out some after.
Marshall- I'll be getting ahold of you and or nick any help out there is much needed and appreciated. The more the better. more ideals means better trails. Feel free to call me also 457-1708

Yeah Zach I still havent figured out exactly the best way to do that yet. One idea I had was to set a few upright posts in a few feet from the tree and stack logs in between the posts and the tree. Then pile up dirt along the backside and on top. I also like the idea of the board walk, that may be even easier. Either way it will take some work but I'm excited about building some features on the trail cause we just dont have many right now.
Saturdays or Sundays are fine with me, it really doesnt matter. Now that I think about it Saturdays may be a better day for some people who go to church and other things on Sunday morning. I may try to make it out 1 or 2 days next week but like you said its getting dark early and its almost not worth going out during the week after work.

Was a little upset this morning when i saw the new section we worked on this week tore up so bad. It looked beautiful thursday night when I left and in one day it kinda was torn apart. And some one knocked out the drop. Dan- I noticed that you signed in on friday. How did it look then. Everything can be re- worked but what a sight. Its not anyones fault really. The dirt is too dry and silty to be packed and when rode on it tears it apart right now. At least we will know where to reinforce the trail now. just needs to be packed in better before it is rode on. Thats why I left the trails end sign where i had. (nice sign by the way) Pray for the rain. We'll get it lined out.

Zack, found what we need on the trails. Its a 750 gallon water wagon used in Yellowstone NP when the tours were done from stagecoaches. Used them to wet the dirt to decrease dust. Should work to get the trail moist. Now, how do I get it back to NHSP? Attachments:

Zach, Friday the trail still looked ok, I could tell a few people had ridden it. I'm not sure what all you did to the drop so I couldnt really tell if it had been tore up. Im not too worried about it. Like you said, that dirt is just so loose that if you build it up at all it is just going to fall apart if it is ridden on. Theres really not much we can do except to try to keep people from riding it until we get some rain. Maybe we could something across the trail where the sign is to try to stop people from riding on.

Rode last night. New " big bowl" section is real soft and dusty, along with many other areas. Really not too bad tho. Might work with it thursday if we get some rain. My weed/ water sprayer was broke so i didnt take it out there. We'll just have to rely on mother nature for moisture. It will line out eventualy.

Hey Zach are you planning on working on the trails any other days this week? I'm playing softball on Thursdays now but I'm usually free most other days. I get off early Friday so I plan on being out there then. Also may do a night ride if Im not too tired afterwards.

I'll Be out at harmonine Thursday night. If anyone wants to join me give me a call 457-1708 and we'll clear some new trail to work on. If I dont see anyone I'm going to work a little farther ahead Due to lack of moisture. Then i can come back and connect the trail later and open up longer sections when they are truly ready and every thing is packed in nicely.

Didn't work on the trail tonight. I opted for a ride instead. I've been feeling a little more out of shape than my normal out of shape ness lately. I need to be riding more. Plain and simple. Will resume some work next week.

Thanks, pork. That sounds funny, i probably saw you thursday, i was the guy in the white ford, anyhow there still are a bit of simple revisions i would like to make to the existing new trail. But over all i'm happy. We are in the middle of figuring out what day would be best day for the most turnout for work days. We will keep it posted. glad you enjoyed the ride. - zach

I added a surprise to the new trail today. Built a nice log ride with a little drop off to a smooth landing. I still want to pack the dirt in leading up to it before riding it but otherwise its done. We need about 6'' of rain to turn this powder into workable dirt. It is really frustrating trying to shape it into anything.

Im with ya on the dust factor dan. Log ride looks good! Cant wait for that soaking rain so we can get that hill dialed in.
Took a bit of a walk Monday night and figured out a bit of a new plan. Gonna start working on a new section Thursday night. It wont connect up for awhile but its about a two mile section and when done it will connect back up to the walnut shelter area making the trail somewhat of a loop. On the grand scale the finished loop is only about 1/4 of what the intermediate trail will be ,but a loop none the less. Then as the rest of the trail gets longer, the short section (only about 30 feet) coming back up to the shelter area will just be a dump out/ shortcut for riders to get back to the connector trail if they wish.
