Who ever decided it would be better to put a sensor on the door latch itself should be hunted down and stomped on. My boy has a ford Explorer and the "door ajar" light just stays on along with the dome lights. Not to mention they have the wonderful built in alarm system that can't be deactivated without hotwiring it. Oh but wait, the door is shut but the sensor is kicking in and out so all it knows is that someone is trying to break in !!! It took 3 hrs and half a can of WD-40 to get that damn thing working right. SOB's That's only a temporary fix. No wonder Toyota and Honda rule the market.

I don't mean to sound like a macho douche, but I have replaced that switch on many a Ford. If the problem persists, I could help with a fix and save you a wad of cash. I know it's been a while since you've posted this, I just ran across it today...sorry.
