There are already several jumps scattered around Scales and I think it may become a problem if they continue to multiply on the trail. Maybe we should look at putting a "jump line" in a less obvious place. I'm all for jumps and fun trails, just don't want to see Scales sued by some d bag that breaks a collar bone. Maybe we can get permission to use the portition on the larger section. There is a smaller loop where there had been 2 real little jumps and a berm. Looks like kids built it. Maybe we could start there. What size of jumps are we talking here anyhow? Little wedge to wedges, drops, or full blown 4 ft. tall dj's?

I agree, I dont think any significant jumps should be built on the main trail. However there is already a small loop that comes off the main trail around the backside of the campground and connects back with the main trail right before you come out at the petting zoo. If you are not looking you wont even notice the entrance. This trail has several good size jumps and a few drops, one over 5'. This trail still needs a lot of work to make the whole thing rideable. There are a few places that you have to walk your bike. I cleared this whole loop last spring with a weedeater but I have not been back there in a while. There needs to be some reroutes made in this trail especially towards the end but I think with a little work this trail could be awesome.

Considering Scales is more on the technical side, hence the better risk of injury. do they have any rules or liability stuff posted anywhere?
I've always wondered about that. Considering it's popularity as a technical trail, they should at least have some educational / informative info.
Hell, maybe they do and I've never seen it.
I do agree that if scales lets just anyone build on their property, it will eventually bite them in the ass.
same thing at angel mounds, I at least contact the chiefs before I go out. They have a liability form they want filled out. Sometimes it becomes a "too many chiefs not enough indians" type situation. We are never on the same page it seems.

hello. I'm on the same page as everyone else... if created, jump lines would not be integrated on the main trail and would be in a separate, independent area... The line at my buddy's house is exactly that, a start hill, single track leadup to the 1st jump which is 2' high and a run of 5.5'..... PS these jumps are made from treated lumbar... the 1st jump width is 2ft wide with a spiraling/ reducing radius as you near the lip which sits at about a 45 deg angle: at the lip of the jump begins the tabletop wich begins at 2 feet and widens to 4 feet at the 3 ft mark and the top is 6.5 feet long connecting to the "landing ramp" which is 4ft wide and 8' ft long and is also located on a downhill. The ramp top is plywood, tabletop and landing ramp are planked. Supports are 4x4 posts in concrete. hardware is carriage bolts and deck screws. kept covered with tarps when not in use.
ok that's #1 and is obviously more of a linear jump than vertical.... #2 is more of a 50/50 height vs linear with the jump height at 3.5 ft, the table top is the same except it makes a sharp rise for step up and levels off at 4.5 ft ??and landing ramp is slightly curved
the connection from the ramps to tabletops is for the younger crowd to not fear the reaper... and they can just keep the tires in contact at all times if they want....
jump #3 is in the works
the exit is a 14' radius banked exit that rips!
anyway... I favor a dedicated linear line, and although dj would be cool, could they be effectively maintained... will there be a water source nearby... will people stay off them when they are wet... I also favor table tops rather than gaps as they give a sense of safety to riders and would appear safer to Warrick parks (if approached and approved)

If Scales gives the OK, I'm very very game to come out and help. I sent you an email about it, Kyle, let me know what you think.
