I guess I'll be the first to post in the new forum... Who else rides road when they can't/aren't in the dirt?
We got a regular group of guys in the E-ville area that meets on Saturday mornings during the warmer months at USI... anyone interested in more jumping in, let me know.

Sometimes we ride in that direction... we usually have a short loop of 16 miles that we start out with then come back to teh lot and meet up with others that didn't want to get up earlier, we then band back up and usually got out for another 25 - 40 miles. We usually try to target for total of 40 -50 miles with avg speed of 18-20, depending on route and whos in the group. Its usually a no drop ride... or what for others to catch up at the intersections of roads.
Its a good bunch of guys, most (10-15) are regulars and then we have others that show up at different times of the year. Ages for the group are 17 up to 65, pretty salty bunch that enjoys the riding scene.
We are now into the MTB part of the year... too cold to ride road in the mornings.
If your interested, I can post our planned ride for the week when its sent out on email... we welcome anyone whos interested in riding. We had 7 of us meet at New Harmony park this morning to ride the trails... got in 12 miles, but it was a cold 12!!!

I dont think I could keep that pace. dont have a street bike, been riding my gt rigid . I could only average about 10mph on that.
Just not real familiar with places to ride that are remotely safe. been riding all my life in this town and have built up a pretty good defense.
I live on the southeast side so ive been riding outer green river and waterworks road.

So you live in Evansville? We have rode out water works and gone across 41 before, we got a loop around Eville we do a couple times a year that takes that route.
We stay out on west end of town most of the time... We usually hit some of these area... St. Joseph, Darmstadt, St. Phillips, Wadesville, Blairsville, St. Wendel, Dogtown.
There is a lot of riding to do on the west side that is safe... take off and ride into Union Twp bottoms, good roads, flat and not much traffic, you'll usually see at least another rider down there at some point.
You would be surprised at the difference in speed a road bike can make... put its another horse to spend money on. You can get a nice road bike for $1000 or less for a new one... I just sold my entry level Raliegh this year. Got a Specialized Tarmac, full carbon bike, unbelievable performance, its pretty sweet.
Now I gotta save my greenbacks for a new MTB bike. I've had the wants for a few years, but got 1 in college and another that will be going next year... whew! I may have to settle on a cheaper ride than what I'm wanting... for a while anyway.

Ziggy, I ride road a little more than dirt but dirt is my favorite. Road I can leave from my house on East side and dirt have to load up my crap and travel. Scales isn't far though. I'm always looking for people to ride with. Would love the opportunity to ride with yoru group. If you don't mind send me an email with you are riding. Put in 20 yesterday at 17mph on my new carbon masi. I was pleased with that considering. brandon_hayes@hotmail.com

I forget the name of the event, its usually held at the park by the river front. They do local rides at from the local bike shop also.

I put a little time in on the road then I prefer, but it is easy when you have a group that goes every week. I did the Rain ride the last two years.
In the spring the group I ride with usually do 50-80 on Sundays and run 18-20 ave.

Yeah Brandon... I'll add you to our riders email dist list, be glad to have you join us. Like I said, we're a pretty good bunch, cut up and joke around a lot... Not serious bunch as some other groups in the area are.
There are a few of us that ride with the Tour d'Evansville group also. They meet at different taverns in the area and ride out from those. I mostly go to the one at Darmstadt that they have every Tuesday evening when things warm up. Good thing about those is after the ride... beer and food.
We usually do the Henderson ride... its the Pickin' and Peddlin ride... We also ride the Harmony Hundred in May and the Hilly Hundred in Bloomington, that one is in October.
Although I put a lot of miles in on the road... I still enjoy the MTB more.

Do you have a route or map of the ride starting from USI? I'de love to join in, but I'm not sure I can average that speed on my single speed Nishiki. I do a lot of downtown, around town, westside, and greenway touring. lol, I keep it kind of flat. BTW anyone have a 1" quill stem by chance?
