Winter Storm Warning Expires 6:00 PM CST on January 07, 2010Statement as of 4:30 am CST on January 6, 2010... Winter Storm Warning in effect from midnight tonight to 6 PMCST Thursday... The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Winter StormWarning for significant snowfall... which is in effect frommidnight tonight to 6 PM CST Thursday. The Winter Storm Warning isin effect for those locations generally north of a line fromElkton and Bardwell Kentucky... Onward to Doniphan Missouri. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.A potent winter storm system will spread snowfall across theregion starting tonight into Thursday.* Timing... snowfall is expected to be heaviest from midnighttonight through midday Thursday. However... some light snowaccumulations may occur into Thursday afternoon.* Main impact... snowfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are likely. Thehighest totals are most likely in areas north of the OhioRiver... with local amounts up to 5 inches or so possible. Totalsmay stay closer to the 2 to 3 inch range over portions ofsoutheast Missouri and western Kentucky. Temperatures willremain well below freezing through the period... so all snow thatdoes fall will accumulate with no melting. Also... strongnorthwest winds on Thursday may cause areas of blowing snow. Thecombination of snowfall and blowing snow will likely causetravel impacts across the entire quad state region... especiallyon Thursday. * Other impacts... the combination of the anticipated snow pack andanother surge of Arctic air and in the wake of the system willdrive temperatures into the single digits to near zero Fridaynight and Saturday night. Lingering northwest winds may pushwind chill readings ranging from zero to ten below later thisweek.. precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow are expectedor occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will maketravel very hazardous or impossible.
