I got a chance to go to Twin Swamps Preserve today after I got done riding at Harmonie. It was wet and at times you were walking in about 2-3 inches of water, but none of the boardwalks were under water. The wetter spots were in the Overcup Oak Slough, and were teaming with millions of mosquitoes. They scoffed at my Deep Woods Sportsman off. I assume only being bathed in pure permethrin and DEET would keep them off. Regardless of a seemingly unwelcoming atmosphere, it's like being transported back to the swamps I've been to in Georgia and the Carolinas. The amount of plantlife was fairly amazing as well. Lots of things you would never expect to see just outside of Evansville. If you take all the trails, it ended up being about 4 miles according to GPS. Less elevation change than Angel Mounds So in spite of muddy shoes, it's a easy hike. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great few hours on a open afternoon. Nice shots, would love to add them to the site if that's ok. southernindianatrails.freehostia.com/twin.htmThere are a few other places like Twin Swamps that are worth checking out and they are all less than 15 miles from Evansville one area is just north of Audubon park, Bald Eagles and Blue Heron nest there. sibiketrails.blogspot.com/2009/04/bald-eagles-in-henderson.htmlAnother is in The Henderson Slough area. no trails that I'm aware of but there are observation platforms along the roads. Green River State Forest has some wetland but I don't believe it has Cypress, it's just typical wetland. Hovey lake but I have not been there in a while.

I'm going to have to check out Audubon the next time I do a morning ride and feel like hiking some. I keep hearing good things about it.
Feel free to use any pics from my Flickr album. I am a photo nut and take plenty anytime I go somewhere, and currently have the Indiana trail bug bad this year, so I should have plenty of trails done by the time the cold comes back around.
