Hey folks, we're going to be out at Scales bright and early working on a new set of trails in the back of the park. Our truck will be parked out on the back road, between the running trail and the back MTB trail. Give us a ring if you want to come out and help, or just say hi! PM/Email for our 'emergency' cell number that we'll have on us.

I almost went out there for a ride yesterday. I wish I would have seen this post sooner. Where are these trails that you guys are working on?

hey daniel, the section of trail we are working on is on the back side of the lake, i think the nearest campsite is 245, that could be wrong though we have it marked from the road to a spot that it would intersect the main trail we just want a second, thhird and fourth opinion before we go any further.
If you would want to meet out there and take a look at it with me email me at marshall21205@yahoo.com or call me at 925-3807 I get out of work at 3, not sure what your hours are but if anything would work I would love to show you what we've got I believe it's one ridge after the Tri running trail if you're driving in from the front gates

Hey guys, I think there is already a trail back there. What's the plan and is the park involved?

we haven't said anything to the park yet...just "went for a hike" with some marking tape made a line of old trail and existing deer trail and wanted to get some opinions from other riders before we pursued the park cause we don't want to waste their time if the line we set up isn't going to work

How long is this trail going to be? Is it going to be a small loop off the main loop or a trail that goes from the road to the main loop?

It goes from the road to the main loop at the moment. We think parts of it used to be the old trail, before the current one was implemented. If you look carefully while you ride you can see where it intersects the main trail in two spots- but over a year of consistently riding out there and we've never noticed it before! Go figure.
We're definitely going to be checking with the park before any ground is broken- we just wanted to find a good line and see if we liked it enough to pursue it first!

I'm not sure of length, to be honest. Walking it and riding it are very different for judging distance! It's been 'ax marked' along a section of it, so I don't know if someone's already planning on re-opening a section or what. It stays about two ridges off the main trail until they intersect about 100 yds before the kink bridges. If you find it, our tape is neon yellow and is easy to follow- the knots point to the trail, and if there suddenly is a lot of tape, it's going on each side of the tree. Usually the trees are marked within sighting distance of one another.

Good to see everyone taking care of our local trails. Nathan and I usually watch over Angel you guys and Daniel seem to be passionate with Scales. Kyle has taken Harmonie under his wing USI doesn't want or care about MTB Hats off to everyone who takes the time to look after our local trails so everyone everyone can enjoy them.

Usually the trees are marked within sighting distance of one another. A couple of years ago (when Frank started making a lot of improvements) one of the mtn bikers complained to parks management about horses on the trail. Parks management told him there's an inner trial for hiking and biking and an outer trail for equestrians. The outer trail was overgrown so the equestrian group simply started using the inner loop. After some complaining.... park staff marked the outer loop with orange ribbon. Its noticeable in several places where it parallels the inner loop. I'm not sure but you might be reopening an old abandon horse trail? Might be worth checking into just to make sure you don't work you butt off only to have the equestrians kick you off the trail. To echo what Tim said... Thanks for volunteering your time and giving back to your sport!

Here's a map, folks. Look up at the top- yellow line is current trail, red line is our extension, blue line is what is marked 'horse trail'. They're all a ridge or two apart, I believe. Marshall's out right now with a friend taking a look at it. We shall see! Thanks for the replies! Attachments:

When you enter from behind the baseball field, head in a 100 yrs or so, there use to be an overgrown trail that branched off from the left. is that part of the new stuff ? Need to go see your progress
