Hey Tim. I know which trail you're talking about by the ball fields. That's pretty much just a longer option for that section. It loops right back in to the main trail. I'm thinking that's probably not part of the new stuff. I believe the new trail they are planning is more on the north side of the park.

I hike-a-biked the new planned route Wednesday evening. Btw, I lost some clear-lensed glasses so if anyone stumbles across them, please let me know. Anyway, I started on the west end of the trail and was able to ride for a little bit. Probably a little less than halfway through, the riding turned to hiking. I was able to follow the trail pretty well. It looked like this trail could be a lot of fun. Possibly a tighter, more technical trail than the main trail next to it. Is that what you guys were thinking? Is the plan to ride west-to-east, east-to-west, or both? It looked like a couple of the climbs riding west-to-east might not be feasible.

it was set up for both directions and I put the climbs in there to add some difficulty to the trail. Though scales has the technical aspects i think it's lacking some of the endurance geared features such as long sustained climbs. I also wanted this trail to be hard enough to make the stronger riders want to get off the main trail in the middle of the climb with the picnic table and shoot over to this section. I also wanted it to be difficult enough that the Y doesn't even consider touching it as we all saw what they did to "help" out there last year.

I like the sound of that. What did the Y do last year?

they felt the need to remove logs that were structural pieces of sections of trail, removed some "debris" that made for a tighter, more technical trail. Just overall dumbed it down for the masses of the tri.
I'm hoping you were able to follow the trail as we laid it down, if you want to meet out there tomorrow to walk it to make sure i'm free all day

That was very sweet of them to smooth everything out for us. After all, mountain biking is much more pleasant without bumps and obstacles getting in the way all of the time.
I was able to follow it ok, just had to backtrack in a few spots when I missed a turn. I would like to hike it the other direction sometime. If you want, PM your # and I'll give you a heads-up if I'm gonna head out there.
