I think dan is right about going back over the new section of trail and fine tuning it. We need to bench out some sections better, put in the burms and just finish it up. Also there are a couple of places that need to be redone for a better flow.
Alex, Tim and myself went on a scouting mission yesterday and got a new game plan for future trail. There is alot of ground to cover! Big hills! Crazy revine crossings and at least two long uphill /down hill sections where we can use the full elavation change of Harmonies biggest hills. All this will be alot of work and will take a good amount of time to get done. We will start to detail flag the new stuff soon.
Alex and Tim are out doing some more today. So we'll see more of what the furure holds for us at Harmonie. One thing is for sure the terrian out there is unlike anything else in Indiana and will make a very unique trail.

Porkchop, BTW, did you fall in the ravine or was it just a psychological thing while riding? I fell into the ravine while trying to ride the small bench that I cut around it. I was trying to see if I could ride that section..... maybe not. I saw sky then dirt then sky then dirt then sky and stopped DOH! No harm done I just rested there a few minutes and moved on.

Check out Alex Stewart's report on identifying the trail run down to the Wabash River from where we are at www.hmba.org/smf/index.php?topic=5543.msg64434#new Its going to be a lot of work, but it will be worth it. This new trail could make HSP a destination site for many midwest mtn bikers for sure. Alex also gave some suggestions about the new section we just opened to make it more rideable and sustainable. We'll be concentrating on that tomorrow.

Thanks for posting that Tim.
For those of you who follow that link be sure to check out alex's link for more pic's. There are some additional google maps that give you a real good idea of the elavation change and landscape of the Harmonie trails. Pretty neat!
I'll see everyone tomorrow morning on the trail.

The work day yesterday went well. Dan cut out around where the temp. bridge is. The bridge is no longer needed and we can take it out whenever we can. Andy took out some problematic roots. I benched a few sections that needed it and reworked a turn that had eroded. We also flagged a couple of reroutes of turns based on some of Alex's recomondations.
We still need to cut out the final segment up to an exit behind the shelter. The whole trail still needs to be finshed off with a mcloed tool (or a rake) and add some berms before we can say it's 100% done but its close and very ridable now.

Hey, guys, think we ought to cancel Saturday's work day - trail conditions and weather will make it hard to even get to the trails much less work on them. What do you think?

Yeah I was thinking the only thing we could do is maybe haul rock back and clear out the new flagged trail. It looks like the ground will be frozen by Saturday anyway with temps staying below freezing. Ive got some time off over the holidays so I plan on doing some work on the trails if the weather cooperates.

There is a trail work day scheduled at O'bannon Woods State Park for this Saturday. It starts at 10:00 am. Meet at the pool area. HMBA is really trying to get a good start in this park that has a lot of potential to be a great place to ride. Help if you can.

Guys lets try and get out to Harmonie next Satudurday for the work day and start back in on the trail. Due to the Holidays I have not been able to get out there. Maybe we should start a tad bit later so the ground wont be as hard. I guess we will have to watch the weather also.

I probably won't make it this weekend. I'm planning on going to Ray's indoor mtb park in Milwaukee for the weekend. I may get out there Monday since I'm off work.
