I'd like to concentrate on repairing the Sycamore Trail Saturday but will defer to any other plan. I plan on being at the Sycamore Trailhead at about 8:30 am. I can go to the Walnut picnic area with tools for volunteers first if you guys want to work on the bail out trail.
Alex has suggested rounding out and easing the curve where the temporary bridge was installed to help keep momentum. Besides that, I don't think the extension needs much more work.

We will have to reschedule the work day planned for tomorrow due the weather. It is raining in the park today and more rain is expected tomorrow. Perhaps next Saturday??? Is anyone up for an evening work session now that we're on daylight savings time?

For anybody that gets out there and works, be sure and give yourself a good once over when done. Tick season is here and they seem to be here by the plenty. Went out and walked some horse trails today for about an hour, had 4 dug in when I got home, my kiddos are small targets and they even had a couple.

Removed some debris and worked on Sycamore today. Zack identified a "bail out" trail route near the "Trails End" sign that will bring the riders back to the Walnut picnic area. We plan on working on it Wednesday evening if the weather permits us. Plan on starting around 5:30 pm at the Walnut picnic area.

Finishing up with storm damage in the neighborhood. Hope to be at Harmonie around 11 am to scope out the damage on the trail. Will be at Scales at 4 pm to help cut storm debris.

Walked the Sycamore Loop clearing off the storm debris. A lot of chainsawing some big trees. Ran out of time so couldn't do Walnut. Expect there's some damage there, too. Will try to do it tomorrow if the rain holds off.

Walked part of Sycamore Loop and Walnut Trail yesterday during a break in the storms. The trails are saturated - had to walk beside the trail in the growth. Sycamore stayed relatively clean after the removal of stuff last Thursday. A couple of trees down on Walnut with the biggest one between the bridges on the fast downhill section (going out). Looks like it will take a couple of days to get things back in order once the trails dry out - whenever that is There is one place on Walnut that needs special attention and I'm not sure what to do. Just past the walking trail (#4) where it narrows between the seasonal "pond" and a ravine, it is eroding into the ravine. It either needs to be shored up some way or re-routed. It won't last much longer. If we continue to get rain this week, it might cut through the trail completely. Here's some pics. Here's a link to some more pictures of the storm damage the last few days. Some of them are before and after clean-up on Sycamore. s1091.photobucket.com/albums/i395/timothywbarnes/April%20Storm%20Damage/

That's a mess! How's it look in the area close to where the bridge got removed? Might be remembering wrong but wasn't a part of that getting thin from washing out also.

Didn't get that far before the thunderstorms returned. That area needed a little rework to improve the flow anyway.

Lets just watch that area. It is a slower section, if I remember right, so if it gets narrower it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If it collapses or washes out we can dig it out and put a bridge in.

Trail work isn't possible until after May 17th. That's when the park will probably re-open after the water recedes from the flood.

I'll be at Harmonie SP Saturday around 8:30 to do some trail work. Will be working on the extension and/or scoping out the reroute around the new ravine. Come to the Walnut Ridge picnic area (where gate is normally closed) to hook up.

Daniel and I started working on the reroute around the new ravine. It will take a while to complete but it looks like it will be really nice when completed. Hope to continue work on it next week. Gnats really limit the time in the woods and the reroute is running through southern Indiana jungle - greenbriars and honeysuckle abound.
