Just wondering if anybody around the tristate area is into doing frames? Really considering taking a "crack" at it and would love to talk to somebody who isn't against sharing info. Not really interested in doing a lugged frame, will be going mitered and tigged. Wanting to build a hardtail frame for my wife, I know it would-be cheaper to just buy one but looks like something that would be fun to do.
Thanks Randy

I'm no help, but I think that's a great idea. Please keep us informed on how it goes.

I have a buddy that had a road bike built by Spicer Cycle... they are in Evansville and can probably answer some of your questions, then again they may just want to sell you a frame. Check them out here.... spicercycles.com/ Hope this helps, they make some nice rides.

The actual putting together part I'm Not much worried about, the jig is what's getting me. Not big on building a one time use type thing, yet not really keen on the idea of having $500+ in something I might never use again. Which we had a metal recycling place like other towns have, everytime I take stuff to Trockmans here in Evansville I see scrap material I would love to use that would cost a small fortune from a metal supply house

Got the tube set, bb shell, drop out, and various little parts ordered. Now just prowling eBay for some good deals on stuff to fab up a frame jig. I'm a total noob to mtb, right now I'm on a very entry level bike that I got to test the water with. It's this one forgebicycles.com/saw5charcoal.aspI kinda think I should of went smaller as I feel like I'm riding it rather than me driving the bike. If that makes any sense. For my diy bike I'm not going to try and reinvent anything, going to pick a popular hardtail frame and copy it's geomety with a few cosmetic changes. I've only been to Harmonie park so far, but for around here what is the most popular setup, all mountain type or XC? 26" or 29"? I'm pretty sure I could do a 29" with a close 26" wheelbase. My current dart1 front shock blows so a new one will be purchased. I'm 36 and 210# and don't forsee me ever taking huge jumps or large drops or bombing down a hill at high speeds, but want something fun. Really like the look of these www.bystickel.com/what.php

Forge 5 was a bike i looked at as an entry level bike. That one or the specialized hard rock were under $400. I'm 42 and I ride a hard tail which is fine around here with the exception of scales lake. But I don't do much jumping. Little stuff maybe I'm like the Brett Favre of mtb. Well...... Brett Favre last year anyway.

The forge was hard to pass up for a starter bike. Free shipping before Christmas and I found a discount code. Was just over $320shipped. Figured even if hated the frame I could pick up different used frame on the bay and still be doing decent cost wise. Building a frame looks like fun though, I'm pretty decent with a tig and have pretty much any tool I could need. Been making turbo manifolds for cars for awhile....kinda the same type of thing but with thinner easier to work with material.
