Just curios if anyone has a a diet or training ritual they live by.
After my blood sugar dropped at Scales a few weeks ago, I'm looking to discipline myself a little better.
I had 3 PBJ sandwiches at Mammoth cave a few weeks back about an hour before I hit the trail. you would have thought I was super man compared to the scales lake indecent.
It was a drastic difference. Anyway just looking for some input.

I'm gonna start taking something with me on the trail as our fitness increases and we start riding more distance. I'm a fan of homemade trail mixes- I like unsalted sunflower seeds and craisins. Don't really have a ritual, unless you consider being vegetarian a ritual... still get plenty of protein from non-meat sources, without the cholesterol, fat, and hormones/antibiotics.

My daughter is vegetarian. I know that protein is somewhat over rated . the daily requirement for the average person is way less then what they require.
I thought about the trail mixes that have the dried fruit and nut. Maybe some bagels. I take the bagels backpacking with me, they store well for longer periods of time.
not real fond of energy drinks, not the sugar based ones anyway

Lots and lots of beer. JK, I try to eat a lot of pasta and other carbs, especially before a race or big ride. I use those GU packs before and sometimes during a race/long ride. For training I try to ride as much as I can but I will also try to run about 5 miles twice during the week. Not sure if this will help you but it works for me.

Pasta has been found to be over rated. Most eat way more then they need to. If you start to spend more then 2 hours on the bike, you will need to eat something. When I am out for 5+ hours I try to mix it up. I like cliff bars because they taste good and are easy to eat. I also take nutter butters or fig newtons. I like the sams choice trail mix or cajun mix.
I have rode with a guy that takes canned goods on the trail. Not sure I would like cold beef stew.
You also need more then just water. I also don't like the sugary energy drinks, but I have found G2 to be less and still better then nothing

I never thought about fig newtons. I may try some of those.

I usually have a cup of coffee and 2 Nutrigrain bars for breakfast (Schnuck's brand because they use sugar instead of corn syrup). For lunch I usually have a bowl of soup or a sandwich. I had strayed from this path for a while and started eating burgers and other fast food, but I've found that I feel a lot better in the afternoon if I have a light lunch. I usually have a terrible dinner but I've been trying to do better. I always buy a ton of those Knorr pasta packages and that's plenty for me.
I used to have a nasty energy drink habit. At one point I was up to 3 24oz Rockstars a day. I had to quit that because my heart was going to explode and it cost a fortune. Now I'm trying to drink nothing but water.
On a day I go riding I usually have a Power Bar a half hour before I hit the trail. Aside from that, nothing special.
