I will be leading a trail layout and trail building event at Harmonie State Park on Friday Dec 11th and Saturday Dec 12th.
The focus on Friday will be trail layout and on Saturday will be on trail construction. I am taking vacation to come down, so anyone who wants to learn trail layout will need to be available on Friday. We will need to get a corridor laid out and enough trail pin flagged for trail construction on Saturday.
I will be heading to O'Bannon State Park on Sunday so make it a weekend and come see both Harmonie and O'Bannon.
I will be staying at a cabin at the park, anyone who wants to stay at the cabin is welcome to stay or to stop by and hang out.

O’Bannon Woods and Harmonie State Park HMBA Trail Blitz Thursday, Dec 10th: 10:00AM Trail Layout at O’Bannon Woods State Park Friday, Dec 11th: 10:00 AM Trail Layout at Harmonie State Park Saturday Dec 12th: 10:00AM Trail Building at Harmonie State Park Sunday Dec 13th: 10:00AM Trail Building at O’Bannon and 1:00PM Trail Ride Alex Stewart, Spectrum Trail Designs; and Paul Arlinghaus, President HMBA will be leading a four day event to kick of trail expansion and O’Bannon Woods and Harmonie State Parks. Trail Layout will be the focus of Thursday and Friday’s efforts. Both Harmonie and O’Bannon have 6+ miles of trail that was built through the Governor’s 2008 State Trail Grant. And both properties are ready for expansion. The trail layout sessions, provide the opportunity to spend a day doing trail design with Indiana’s primer trail designer. Alex Stewart designed the existing trails at Harmonie and O’Bannon, as well as most of the trails at Brown County State Park. On Saturday and Sunday we will start building new trails. The intent is to get local trail builders started, so that they can continue building trails throughout the winter. There will also be a ride at O’Bannon Woods State Park at 1:00PM. For the adventurous, we will show off a 5 mile section of the Adventure Trail that has been cleared of downfall and is available for riding. Details • Harmonie meeting location: Shelter at Mountain Bike Trail Head • O’Bannon State Park location: Rocky Ridge Trail Head (Family Campground) • HMBA will provide trail building tools. • Contact Info: Paul Arlinghaus (317) 730 5046, parlinghaus@msn.com Park Info and Property Map www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2981.htmwww.in.gov/dnr/parklake/files/harmonie_trail.pdfWe will be meeting at the mountain bike trail head’s shelter. On the map link above it says future mountain bike trails. The trail work and layout will be extending the Walnut Connector, from where the blue line stops.

It has come to my attention that Harmonie is on something called central time. All activities will start on this Central Time. So Trail layout will start at 10:00AM Central on Friday. And Trail building will start at 10:00AM central on Saturday.
I will be doing a frozen trail ride at 8:00AM central on Friday morning.

Harmonie was in pretty good shape despite a few mud holes. The Walnut connector was perfect though.

I'm glad to hear you say that it's in good shape. I'll be there with a small group tomorrow. I know last week it was in good shape with a couple of muddy spots. I didn't know how it would be after the rain this week. What's the Walnut connector like (hilly, technical)? I haven't ridden it because I'm a relative newbie and it looks scary.

It really isn't much more difficult than the Beginner trail. There are only two uphill sections of note. They're slightly steeper than on the main loop but not bad at all. Coming back would probably be a different story but I always ride the road back, so I've never done it.
I'd go for it though. It's a lot of fun and there are some good downhill sections that flow really well.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to give it a shot. And I like the idea of riding the road back.

I had a great time out today. Ended up riding the connector more due to it being very dry and dialed in. There is a tree about 100yds or so into the connector trail, hopefully someone will get out with a chainsaw to cut it out soon, there is already a well worn trail around it though.
There are a few mud spots on the loop, I think I counted 10 total, 3 of the worst being within 50ft of the beginning of the trail. Too bad my tires shed mud horribly, nice extra weight to ride around with.

Heading to Harmonie to do some dirt riding this afternoon... was wondering if those pesky buffalo gnats are back yet? I'll be riding out there at around 5:30...
