Had a good chat w/ Chastity at Harmonie today. Some things came up that need feedback from everyone interested.
1) The kiosk will be painted in a few weeks by the YHCC workers. The color will be the new Indiana "official" color - black.
2) The park and conservation officer want to mark the trails with some form of designation for quick response in case of an emergency. These markers would be used similar to reporting a mile marker on the interstate when there's an accident. Each marker will have GPS coordinates so location can be more easily identified by responding personnel. How should we mark it? in what increments? I'll do it once we establish the right way - really don't want to get into painting on trees. Please send your ideas to me or post on this forum. I'll ask for consensus before I do the work. Please bear in mind cost.
3) The YHCC workers will be available to help us this summer with the trails, so we should try to schedule some work days.
4) The park is open to any ideas are are very supportive of our efforts. We should interact with them so they can support us with some materials and workforce. Chastity is really receptive to just about anything.
5) Chastity will schedule a chainsaw certification session in the near future. Please let me know if you're interested, so we can estimate how many will be attending. As of now, only Ron Pendley is chainsaw certified in the group.
6) Chastity is going to see about getting the shed back in service for us to store things. We may have to put another lock on it. We can either put another combination lock on it or hide a key somewhere around the building - what do you think?
That's about it. Please respond if you're interested in the chainsaw certification or have ideas about marking the trails for improved emergency response. Thanks.
