I'll ask Ron what the start time is for 6/6/10 work day tomorrow and post. Hopefully, we're going to cut out the tree(s) on the Walnut trail tomorrow evening at 5:30 pm.

Just wanted to add something from experience. We wear these gloves at work that are basically a nylon glove dipped partially in rubber. They are identical to these.... is30.eporia.com/company_79/663074.jpgAnyway, it takes one hell of a load off of the muscles in your hands and forearms. Especially when you are trying to swing a rake, axe or other handled tool. They sell 3 types at the "Dollar Tree" store Just thought I'd add my thoughts.

Ron wants everyone who is working next Sunday that breakfast will be served around 7 am at the Sycamore Shelter House - trailhead of the Sycamore and Walnut trails. Please RSVP. Ron, Paul Arlinghaus (HMBA President), and I flagged some more of the Walnut Loop this morning. We have roughly two miles to work on. We'll start where the Walnut trail leaves off now and just continue the out-and-back farther.

From Ron's page:
Anyone planning to come let me know at "ron@ronpendley.com". If enough plan to show, I'll cook breakfast for all. Fuel the workers. I will confirm the breakfast via email if I get enough response.
If you work as a volunteer you don't pay to get in the park. Stop at the office on the left before you get to the gate house, and sign up. When you sign the waver form you are now actually covered by park insurance.
Please sign in and out every time you do work. We need to keep track of volunteer hours for the state park department.

Trail build day infoA reminder was sent to your email address also Quoted from Ron Pendley ( ron@ronpendley.com) Finalizing details so everyone is on same page. If you work as a volunteer you don't pay to get in the park. Stop at the office on the left before you get to the gate house, and sign up. When you sign the waver form you are now actually covered by park insurance. Please sign in and out every time you do work. We need to keep track of volunteer hours for the state park department. ____________________________________________________ Sunday June 6. Let me ( ron@ronpendley.com) know if you will show up for breakfast at Sycamore Trail head shelter house at 7:30am. Surprises are still welcome, but warning is good. You might only get one egg. Morning trail building will start about 8:00 at the next Shelter house area at end of the “out n back” where all the picnic tables are stored. Drive there from Sycamore. If you don’t want to miss church, come on out after services. We’ll probably still be there. If not, we got tired of working and we’re riding. What to bring; rake, shovel, ax, the big heavy hoe trail building tool (the name escapes me) if you have one. You may want to wear a light color long sleeve shirt. If you have one maybe a “no see m” head cover net. Gloves. And enough bug spray “tick repellent” to take a bath in. How’s my sales pitch? If you still want to come… you’re a real trail builder. Look forward to seeing you there. Ron ___________________________________________________ They sell a few grip type gloves at the dollar tree that work really well. I would recommend that type of glove to reduce muscle fatigue in you hands and forearms. I will be donating a few dozen jersey gloves so everyone will have a pair. Tim

I noticed the new flagged part of the trail has a ton of down trees that will need to be removed. Will someone have a chainsaw there Sunday or be certified to use one? I can bring mine if needed however I have not been "certified" by the park to use it.

I'll be there to learn, meet new people and support where I can. With my newly acquired rib fracture from this week I doubt I will be swinging a Rhino, but at least I can be there helping where possible.

Also posted on the HMBA website:
Steve Fuelling and I just finished walking the Sycamore Loop. Steve is the hiking trail volunteer leader. We cut out some roots that were dangerous to trail runners and "looped" up to where they could snatch stuff. We also cut out some briars.
We used a trundle wheel to measure the distance and marked the trail in 1/2 mile increments in a clockwise direction. The trail is still bidirectional but these can be referenced in case someone needs help on the trail or obstacles fall over it. We will get GPS readings at these tomorrow. These may just be temporary until we can get some better signage.
We can get three guys certified for chainsaw work Sunday, 6/6/10, at 10 am. I'll be one of them.

Just curious.............. Besides your everyday alien abductions and large caravan of naked swimsuit models. what conditions would cancel this trail build event?
