Mt. Vernon got hit really hard, too. Didn't make it to the park (10 miles from my house), but my yard was dry by night fall after all that rain. I plan on going over tomorrow morning to check on conditions and damage.

Storms didn't hit HSP - got some rain. Both trails are basically dry and good-to-go.

Trails were perfect when I rode this morning. I rode the new out and back and a few sections definetely need some work. Other than a couple sections the trail was awesome, just too short! It will be nice when we extend it to the section that is already built. When I got back to that parking lot there was an ambulance there. I thought maybe someone got hurt but they said they were getting ready to train rescue dogs there.

Trails are still in excellent shape! Beware - its hot in the woods. If you ride, drink plenty of fluids.
I flagged a couple of alternate routes on the new section of trail to help reduce the sharp angles in a couple of places. Also flagged an alternate route for those who don't want to ride over the log. Still have to cut the log on the alternate route and rhino it in.

I almost wouldn't mind losing the log. I rode that section the other day and it seemed like an unnecessary obstacle. I was trying to compare the new section to some of the existing stuff and I think it would be beneficial to add more undulations to the trail. Maybe if we tried to zigzag a bit it would help mimic the fun undulating sections of the existing trail. I just wish I had more experience with trail construction.

Nathan, that's basically what I had in mind with the "log" section. We can put more undulations in that downhill section and widen the turns at the top and bottom of the hill. It should make it more "flowy" like the older section. Without the log, the trail would allow too much speed going into the turn on the bottom. The braking for the turn would erode the trail quickly. Its almost a fall line trail now.
If I don't hear differently, I'll remove the log after redoing the trail. Thanks for the feedback.

It would probably be benificial in breaking in the new trail to remove the log. I think logs that size are perfectly fine for the trail, just not in certain locations. There will always be more logs falling on the trail that we can decide to leave.

As of noon, the Sycamore Loop and Walnut Trail are in good shape. A couple of branches had fallen on the Sycamore Loop and were removed. Its kind of a crap shoot on the trail status, though, with all of these scattered thunderstorms. The trails were rained on yesterday but shed that water well. Another thunderstorm might make it a different story.
I increased the radius on two turns on the new section of the Walnut Trail and knocked down some berms. This section drained well like the older sections except for the built up turn where the berm caught the draining water. Anyway, some more work to do on this section but its getting that "flowy" feel now. Please feedback anything that you feel needs to be done to it.

A serious thunderstorm rolled through HSP yesterday afternoon. A lot of debris down. The trails have been cleared of the big stuff and can be ridden. Some small deadwood branches along the way. The ground is dry in most places and tacky in some. I think the canopy of the trees really keeps the trails dryer, especially the Walnut connector.
The new section of trail drained better after the mods yesterday. No work done today on it.

Trails are too wet to ride. Consider them closed. HSP had a soaking rain this morning. Pruned the first two miles of the Sycamore Loop.

The Sycamore Loop has some soft spots but can be ridden. Be careful, though. A couple are on off-camber turns and can cause your bike to slide if you're not aware of them. The Walnut Connector is in excellent condition.

Harmonie is still pretty squishy in spots. In another day or two it should be golden.

Hiked the first 3.5 miles of the Sycamore loop with the kids this morning. Alot of wet spots on the trail still. We did trim what we could as we hiked and cleaned off the trail of the big stuff.

There are still a few soft spots on the Sycamore Loop. The Walnut Trail is dry and fast.
