That's the reason I used that hand tool cause of those vines. And every now and then a thorn or 12 would get in my shoe for a nice surprise.
Good call on the boat ramp trail. Mike mentioned he never much cared for it connecting to that area.
I blocked off a section of trail Saturday. It's really just a useless path that came out from the west side of the bridge. I suppose it had a use prior to the crossing but it doesn't now.
I just threw some limbs down to block it off.

We were out there yesterday, there was a fresh limb that had fallen across one of the trails about 50 feet in. It probably hadn't been down more than 12 hours. Marshall and a buddy of his hauled it off to the side.
Those stickerbushes are evil... I'm about to take a pair of pruning shears with me when we ride and just chop off the little bastages that stick out on the trail

Thats all I did. I wacked through everything and then went back with the shears. They ate me alive, I was po'd. went back through like a thorn bush murderer. My legs look like 4 rabid kittens got hold of me

Going out saturday with the mighty hedge wacker thingy. I know some of the thorns are starting to become a real pain again.
I might see what it takes to build a small crossing over the slough. Came across some wood at work.

I was out there yesterday and the slough was completely under water again. This has been the rainiest summer I can remember.

Holy spit !!! I went out and measured the slough and it's almost 90' across ! Good lord, I don't remember it being that wide. water is still draining down and I don't see it drying up any time soon. gonna have to wait till its dry enough to walk on before I go digging holes. None the less, I'm trying to figure things from a minimalist cost but dang..... 90' This little spot needs to be re-routed. or throw some logs down the center line. not that hard either way. This is just logging ruts. Problem is, they need to get their mule truck back there.

I was out there today from about 4-6. I really wish they would stop taking the Gator back there when it's still wet. They made some really nice new ruts instead of driving through the old ones, and I even noticed a place on the levee where the drove out of their way to to through the mud. Sometimes I don't think the people who work out there understand how dirt works. The trails are getting better and better but it's frustrating when the people who are supposed to be maintaining the property are the ones making it worse.

I noticed that also. In the second photo you can tell they have driven through. It's pretty fresh mud. some places they just go off trail and make their own.
Other than the places that stay muddy, the trail is by far the best it has ever looked. even from the spring when it was all over grown.
You know that other trail that runs right beside the one above ? I was thinking of putting the crossing there, it is half as wide in that area. Either way you go, you can still get back to the levee. Just seems more practical. Half the cost. Spend a little there and maybe do some work on the other spots.
I think some rock crossing / obsticles would work in some of the muddy spots by the gate. I really would like opinions. I need a combined idea of what everyone thinks would work. right now were all on separate chapters of the same old book.
Anyway, volunteers can make a difference, especially when they understand what a trail should look like. it's the "politics" that slow things down sometimes.
i'll take the positives over the negetives and keep plugging away.

Cut a new down hill trail today. It's pretty rough right now because of massive weed eater failure and total heat exhaustion. Go figure, i buy string that is the diameter of a pencil and it still breaks every 5 feet. Then the cap stripped and I could not get the spool off to change the string. Anyway, it's a work in progress. needs to be smoothed and cut a bit more. it's about a 500' run with a screaming 50' of elevation change. At angel mounds that is about the max
