Thank you so much for doing that. You have blazing speed. We rode the entire loop you cleared before it was cleared, happy the nasty bits past the gate were dry enough to go all the way back to the levee, then turned around and did it in reverse.
We saw dcates74 and his kids by the end of the trail where it meets the figure 8 and talked for maybe 15 minutes, turned around and rode the trail back and from the river up it was totally raked. Was so nice we turned around and rode it again praising the name of whoever did it. Somehow we didn't get to thank you in person (because of the aforementioned blazing speed) but you certainly made our ride better, and I know all 3 of us appreciated it.

LOL ! About the last 100 yds I raked in the dark. I could just barely see the trail and was hauling ass because the horse flies were really picking on me. I only saw one person the whole time. No one on a bike though.
I never knew how long that trail was until today. It felt like I raked for 20 miles

Let me know and I'll help. I have a nice cordless drill that is extremely under-utilized.

I had a LONG ride out today. During a break midway we met a hiker and his wife asking about the quality of downed trees/etc, he is apparently the mystery mowing man. Said he had a industrial trimmer and was trying to clear everything he could. Told him the route I was riding and said the butterfly trail could use his attention, he said he would try to take care of it this week. Nice guy.

Yeah, he must be the one with push weed mower that mike told me about. Next time I try to clear trails out there I'm bringing my lawnmower.

I'll try to get out there tomorrow or Monday and take the time to cut back all the thorns. There are more than a few at face/chest level that throw off the flow avoiding them now that it's so fast.
Also, from my phone's gps app, the trail loop from the front bench and trailhead to the far bench at the end of the butterfly trail, is 3.2 miles.

I went out this afternoon and trimmed back some of the eye gouging level thorn bushes and briers. I trimmed from the river to the shadow trail and back again. I think I got most if not all of them in that area that were at or around face level. I would have done more but I did not think about it until I got out there so I did what I could with my leatherman.

Hey Tim if you are still planning to do some bridge building and what not here let us know on here. I know I for one would like to help and i might be able to bring a few more folks who have some construction experience (not a ton but some.)

Thanks, I still have most of the wood. I have kinda taken a backseat lately to riding, so I have not been out much. Working in the heat all day sorta dampens my desire to ride in the evening.
Most of the bridges are small stream crossing/ mud bog crossings. 6-8 feet or so.
Thanks for the offer, when I get my gears moving again I will give you a yell.

I currently have access to a bunch of shipping pallets. I was thinking they might be able to be used as bridges or pieces of bridges. I'm not sure exactly who to contact or if it is a good idea. what are you guys thoughts?

We used to use pallets at Scales Lake and they would only last a year or two before they started breaking. These were the light duty pallets. If the pallets are burlier than the basic pallet, they may work well.
