Trail conditions for Angel Mounds as of 6.7.9 THANKS NATHAN!!!Green = good to go Yellow = questionable but passable Red = still wet or overgrown The squiggly line toward the bottom is what we though was going to be a short connector trail but it turned out to be a long slog through trail that hasn't been cleared in YEARS. We got it re-opened but the ground is really soft and the trailbed is non-existant in many places. We were basically just playing connect the dots with the marker ribbons, when we could see them.

you guy rock and roll!!! I'm gonna be out, more than likely non'ish saturday. Doing basically what you guys did. I want to open up the trail that runs along the eastern edge and hopefully create an opening to the bridge. It would at least bypass some of the muck that is keeping things shut off. The original pops out right where you have to enter the corn field and head down to the bridge. It originally went around the slough. Most of it was actually undisturbed by tornado. Then came the nature slayer...... If you hear a chain saw, it's probably me. ;D

Here's a GPS overlay of the trail you uncovered Sometime when everything is dry, I'm gonna hike all the trails with my gps and see if I can get a better map layed out. Doing it through Google Earth has made it look a lot better.

Trail Conditions are fairly good BTW.
Trails are mostly dry with the exception of a few spots by the bridge and by the maintenance gate.
Atmosphere is: TROPICAL ;D

I went out to Angel Mounds last night and it's pretty sloppy. Some spots are dry but the majority of the trail is greasy. Of course all the normal spots are swampy.

Rode the entire thing today trying to map it with the GPS. Most of the trail is in pretty good shape. there are some spots that are muddy but over all is was pretty good. Of course it has just rained a bit here so I don't know how things are now I do know that the trail that leads west from the gate is a total festering muck pit extravaganza. I plowed through it but I think I now have Malaria or some amazon viral infection.

Angel Mounds is getting better. There are still a few wet spots but the majority is dry. The overgrowth is really bad in some spots, unfortunately, so some weedeating would do a lot of good.

Ugh, went flying through the itchy weed the other day. I may be crazy but has anyone else been mildly zapped ? I swear on all things sane that the plant puts off an electric charge. Or it's a chemical reaction. Prior to the violent itchin' Either way it sucks going through there. (UPDATE 7-1) I think the plant is called Stinging Nettle.

trails are in pretty good shape and are mostly dry. some spots are still mucked up but that's normal. It's a fun ride when it drys up. Needs a little more weed eating in the back and it will be good to go. You can ramp off the west bridge now too cause the slought is dry

I went out to Angel Mounds this evening and got a good ride in. The best one I've had out there all season, actually. Everything is dry and someone was out there with a weedeater clearing the trails again. There are still some nasty overhanging thorns but you can ride the entire loop down to the boat ramp and back without getting off the bike. The dirt is getting nice and firm and fairly quick too. It reminded me why I like the place. Pick a gear, get in a good rhythm and GO.

Yeah, I agree. wonder who the mystery weed wacker is ? I need to get back out sometime and work on the back 40, down by three mile island. That stuff grows so wicked fast. Finally got my map plotted with the new trails, Other than that the place has come a long way. fix some of the muddy spots and it would be awesome. it's a great place to take someone who just wants to do some enless riding with no elevation change.

For every pile of dog shit I ride through, I'm going to murder an entire family and relocate the dog to some non-lowlifes. That's three so far this season, so I'm going to need some extra clips.

I went back out there yesterday and the trails are still fairly dry. The ground is soft but it isn't really muddy.
It looks like someone from the park was out there doing some clearing. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I get the feeling the maintenance people don't really 'get it' when it comes to trails. Singletrack shouldn't be 15ft wide. And they really need to stop driving that Gator back there. All it does is tear up the trails.
