Just got back from Scales. There are still a handful of little mud spots. The biggest one was maybe 4 feet long. Otherwise the trails are in pretty good shape.

The Internet has been slow lately, it seems. I sit on a computer from 8-5 every day so I'm always on here.

I have a lot of ideas but I want to take some time to organize them so I don't sound like a spaz.

I really hope they don't spread gravel out there. That would be fine for a hiking trail but I think it would be miserable for bikes. The wood chips on the short loop north of the levee have had a full year to settle and they still suck to ride on.
AM needs to take a look at Harmonie's trails before they do anything else. Maybe solicit some advice from HMBA. Or maybe even talk to the people who use the trails.

I went back out there yesterday and the trails are still fairly dry. The ground is soft but it isn't really muddy.
It looks like someone from the park was out there doing some clearing. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I get the feeling the maintenance people don't really 'get it' when it comes to trails. Singletrack shouldn't be 15ft wide. And they really need to stop driving that Gator back there. All it does is tear up the trails.

When I was 15 or 16 I went whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny river and had a blast. It was mostly Class IV and V rapids and was a hell of an experience for a first-timer. I'd love to go again.

Sounds like a good time. I went back out to AM today and managed to avoid hitting any piles, luckily. I haven't been camping yet this year and I want to go so bad. I usually go to Hemlock Cliffs (shh, it's secret) because it's about as primitive as you can get, and nobody is ever out there. I think I might be camping outside of Milltown then going canoeing on the Blue River on the 18th. I'm looking forward to it. ;D

For every pile of dog shit I ride through, I'm going to murder an entire family and relocate the dog to some non-lowlifes. That's three so far this season, so I'm going to need some extra clips.

I went out to Angel Mounds this evening and got a good ride in. The best one I've had out there all season, actually. Everything is dry and someone was out there with a weedeater clearing the trails again. There are still some nasty overhanging thorns but you can ride the entire loop down to the boat ramp and back without getting off the bike. The dirt is getting nice and firm and fairly quick too. It reminded me why I like the place. Pick a gear, get in a good rhythm and GO.

I went canoeing in Missouri this weekend. I had a great time but got pretty beat up. I'm glad I took tomorrow off...

Broken collarbones are a pretty common biking injury. Luckily I haven't had one yet. (knock on wood)
Last year at Scales I was coming around a corner pretty fast and started pedaling a little too early. Hooked my inside pedal on a root and got high-sided off the bike into an embankment. I landed on my side with my arm pinned under me. That was the first time I've ever knocked the wind out of just one lung. It was a strange experience.
I was sore as hell and sat down for a while, then rode for another hour or so. The next day I woke up in all kinds of pain so I went and had x-rays done. I ended up breaking my 5th and 6th ribs on the left side, about 2 inches from my breast bone.
So that sucked for a few months. I took 2 weeks off then started riding again, with the help of a few painkillers before each ride. It took about 3 months before I was 100%.

Angel Mounds is getting better. There are still a few wet spots but the majority is dry. The overgrowth is really bad in some spots, unfortunately, so some weedeating would do a lot of good.

I was out at Scales around 1:00 today and it was still muddy in spots. Not too bad, but just enough for the tires to sling it all over me.

Trails are in great shape still. We got there around 10 and there were still a few squishy spots but it wasn't bad at all. By tomorrow it will probably be totally dry.
