Zach Here, 34-years young. Besides for a couple of years in So. Cal I've called Evansville my home. I run a family owned salvage yard in Evansville, Glisson's Salvage. So if you need anything for your automobile/truck give me a shout. If I dont have it, I can find it for ya. I just love the outdoors period. Biking , hiking, camping, love it all. I grew up skateboarding and snowboarding, which i still do, and started mountain biking a few years ago. It has become another great obsession of mine. I have been working quiet a bit out at Harmonie State Park on the walnut extention week nights thoughout the week so ride on back and say hi. I'll be the guy covered in dirt and sweat with a hoe. - Ride on

if we saved all the trash and debris from the fall festival for 3 or so years we could pile it up in jimtown and and have our own mountain with lift access and gnarball descents right in the middle of town, get on it nut clubbers.

HI, I'm Tim. Live in Nashville, TN now, originally from Henderson. Still have family in the area so I'm in town frequently. Have ridden Sczles Lake, (way cool trail) but have yet to check out the other trails in the area. Does anybody know if Ben Hawes has reopened? Last time I checked it was still closed.. Oh, and is anybody up for a Black Friday ride? Thinking of doing Scales Lake again unless somebody has a better place to ride.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Tim

Hello I'm Calvin 54 years old fat & slow, but not ready to give it up! I've been Mountain biking since 82 so I have broken parts older than most of you and broken bones to prove it. Rode the night ride at New Harmonie Friday night (12-10) I am amazed that there are that many people around here willing to ride in the dark in the middle of December. I think hanging with you guys and girls will be a lot of fun. I am a Graphic Designer working for Promark. They do Textile printing. (tee shirts etc.) Signs, Labels, Embroidery, Ad specialties and other things. I kayak (flat water) love to camp and I like to cook. Look forward to riding with ya's.

Hi everybody, my name is Craig and I live in Bruceville, IN.( 6 miles east of Vincennes). I am 38 yrs. old and enjoy being outdoors. Unfortunately age is catching up with me and my shape is getting away from me. Since I like being outside I figure I will take up biking to get back into shape. I am married with a six year old son. Hopefully some of us will get together and go for a ride sometime.( I have to get a bike first!)

Also I have researched a lot of beginner bikes and I think I want a TREK 3500. What do you guys think about that for a starter? And if anyone knows where I can find one around here would be great! Thanks.

If you only spend a few hundred bucks on a bike then you should definitely consider it a starter bike. If you end up getting more serious, then I would suggest upgrading. But if you end up just riding on occasion, a bike like the 3500 should hold up fine as long as you need it. I started on a Trek 820 in the early 90's and it held up to a few years of pretty serious abuse.
One thing you should consider is the quality of suspension fork that comes on a bike like the 3500. If you plan to ride trails pretty hard, then a fork like that won't hold up too long and will require serious maintenance to keep it running smooth. The suspension does offer a much nicer ride, but a rigid fork is fine for starting out and much more reliable. However, if you're willing to maintain a suspension fork, I highly recommend them.
I would also recommend going through a bike shop to get started. Once you ride and learn more about bikes, you can save some money buying online.

My name is Curtis. 39yrs old, live in Newburgh with my wife and two children. I work in a dealership in Evv. Used to ride Scales, Yellowbanks, Ditney and Angel Mounds but have slacked over the last few years. Retiring my Gary Fisher for either a Trek or Specialized and am super pumped to get back to shredding the trails. Look forward to running into some of you out there.

Hello all. Name is Rick (age 36). Married and have 3 children. I grew up in the Henderson area but now live in Newburgh (within riding distance to Angel Mounds). I have never been mountain biking but I have always been an adrenaline junky. Skateboarded most of my life as well as road motorcycles and 4-wheelers. I just bought a Trek Advanced for my starter bike and plan on hitting the trails this weekend. Going to start with Angel Mounds to get the feel for my bike then plan on hitting Scales up asap! Look forward to meeting some people and having some great rides!

Welcome. A few guys I know tried to ride Angel Mounds the other day but most of it is still underwater or really soggy. You might be able to ride the trail that runs parallel to the levee, just south of it though. That's the only section with any elevation and it drains fairly well.

I am hoping the rain holds off and we get a little warmer this weekend! If Angel Mounds is still bad I will head out to New Harmony and do my first ride there.

Welcome to the forum !! Angel mounds is usually soup until mid june.
most of the southern trails are not original. When they logged the area they destroyed what the tornadoes didnt.
The ruts made by the logging truck is what they used as the new trails. it's better now but there were ruts 2 ft deep out there that were useless as a bike or hike trail.
it's also a wetland area, so that doesn't help either. Nathan is right about the trails along the levee, they aren't much but they are on higher ground and drain well.
